Entry No. 014 · The Inmate Index
The fall guy. The one holding the bag when it all goes wrong, especially the parts they didn't cause.
Full Definition
Every failed project, every missed deadline, every initiative that quietly dies has a name attached to it by the time the postmortem gets written. Sometimes that name belongs to the person who actually made the decisions. More often, it belongs to whoever was standing closest when the music stopped.
The Prison Patsy is rarely the most responsible person in the room. They're the most available one. The one without a Warden covering for them. The one too new, too junior, or too honest to have built the political cover everyone else has.
It's not always intentional. Sometimes it's just gravity: blame flows downhill, and someone has to be at the bottom.
Signs You're Living It
Survival Move
Get decisions in writing before you execute them, especially ones you disagree with. Not as a threat, just as a record. The Patsy role gets assigned to whoever has the least documentation. Don't be that person.
