Full Definition

The Corporate Warden runs your day to day. Approves your PTO. Signs off on your review. Enforces the policy they didn't write and, half the time, don't even agree with.

Here's the part people miss. The Warden usually isn't the enemy. The Warden is often an Inmate too, just one level up, catching pressure from above and passing consequences down, because that's the only direction pressure in this system ever flows.

That doesn't mean every Warden gets a pass. Some enjoy the keys. Most are just doing what they were trained to do: keep the block quiet and the numbers up.

Signs You're Living It

Says "my hands are tied" more than anyone else in the building.
Gets blamed by the people below them and overruled by the people above them, often in the same week.
Enforces a policy in a tone that makes it clear they don't love it either.

Survival Move

Separate the person from the position. You're not managing a villain, you're managing someone else's chain of command. Know which Wardens are worth building trust with and which ones are just relaying orders. That distinction changes your whole strategy.
