Entry No. 023 · The Inmate Index
The coordination, emotional labor, and administrative upkeep that keeps everything running and somehow never seems to make the performance review.
Full Definition
Invisible Workload is everything that has to happen for the visible work to happen, done by someone, uncounted by anyone. Researchers use terms like non-promotable work, office housework, and workplace mental load for overlapping pieces of this phenomenon. Corporate Inmate calls the whole pile Invisible Workload.
Performance systems are built to measure output, and they're not well built to see the labor underneath the labor, so the person doing it gets called reliable instead of compensated.

Start a running list. Not a complaint, a record: what you caught, coordinated, or prevented, written down the day it happens. Vague effort is invisible by design. A dated list is evidence.
