Not answering the 7 PM email. Taking the full lunch. Closing the laptop at the time you're actually supposed to leave. Nobody notices. Nothing gets negotiated. But something that used to belong to corporate belongs to you again.

You're not refusing what corporate demanded. You're identifying what it never actually demanded, and conditioning just convinced you to donate anyway.

Signs You're Living It

You let the 7 PM email sit until tomorrow, on purpose, and nothing bad happened.
You took your actual full lunch instead of eating at your desk mid-task, and nobody noticed you were gone.
You closed the laptop at the time you were actually supposed to leave, instead of the time you usually do.

Survival Move

Before your next automatic yes, ask whether anyone actually required it, or whether you're just used to giving it. You don't have to escape corporate to start taking yourself back from it.
